    Description

    Vintage/Antique Ideal Composition Doll.-- "Liberty Boy".
    This doll is dressed as a World War I soldier or "doughboy".  He has has a jointed composition body and socket head. The khaki Army uniform is molded and painted.
    Size:  Approximately 12".
    The doll was designed in 1917 by Morris Michtom, one of the founders of the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company of Brooklyn, N.Y.
    The "Liberty Boy" doll was used during World War I to sell war bonds.  It is unique because boy dolls are so unusual.  during the war and was very popular because boy dolls were unusual.
    On the back of the doll there is an incised signature - IDEAL in a diamond.
    This doll is in very nice overall condition.  Note that there is a repair on the left foot.  See photos for condition.
