Take home a piece of history, these dolls make a great addition to any doll collection. Would look lovely in a dollhouse.
These dolls are 4” tall. There is hair missing on the green kimono doll and a chip on the right toe of the red kimono doll. There is wear and tear, fading of the handmade kimono. The dolls are sawdust in composition, covered with a oyster shell lacquer called gofun. They both have inset glass eyes. Their bodies are wrapped with a brown paper. They come in a woven basket. The style of the doll are pre-1920s.
Ichimatsu dolls represent little children and babies. They were named after a famous 18
th
century kabuki actor. They were introduced in the United States as “friendship dolls,” as 58 dolls were sent to the US in 1927.
