Description
#404 - Limited Edition Cracker Jar for Levay - Rubigold CarnivalVery beautiful 9 1/2" tall "Hob Star" Variant handled cracker Jar made by Imperial for Levay Glass in the Rubigold (marigold) carnival in 1977.
It is a very large piece of carnival glass weighing 6 pounds before packaging.
It was made by Imperial in a limited edition of 500 units both pieces are marked IG. The bottom is supposed to be marked "Levay" and XX of 300" but all I can see if the "of 3" due to
all the table wear on the bottom. See photos.
There is a small chip on the rim of the top and two teeny fleabites to the top of the jar rim. The knob has what looks to be flakes but they are iridized over
so I assume it was a mould release issue.
The top of the jar is out of round so the lid does not sit on it perfectly. This can be seen in the side photo of the handle with the lid on (second to last photo)
Looking through my Imperial Catalogs and Reference Books, I do not see this made in any other color during the Re-Issue phase of Imperial Carnival glass.
