Description
When I found this doll, I was first struck by her outfit and adorable face. Then I saw the original paper information piece stating she was named for Anna Nitschmann, who was born in 1714 and was a distinguished worker among the women of the Moravian Church. I since have tried to research and find her, with no luck! So, I am guessing not too many of these dolls survived or were made. It states on the paper that the costume of this doll is hand made by the Busy Workers of the Moravian Church. She is approx. 13" tall and all original. I am sure her clothing has never been removed. I found her in a box that while not her original box, was a box from the original owner which has penciled on the top "Moravian doll from Lucy Faclcler". I think she has been in this box since. Made of composition, with a swivel head and joints at the shoulders and hips. Painted eyes. There is some crazing on her face as you can see in the pictures, and a lift of the composition on the head side seam. I did not remove her clothing, but did remove the pantaloons to look at her legs, where there is light crazing.
Her clothing is so sweet and I love her bonnet with the widow's peak and pleating on top. It is in excellent condition.
A true piece of history of a renowned spiritual missionary of the Moravian Church.
